You and the WWE

Posted on January 7, 2014 in Uncategorized

What do you and the WWE have in common?  Well, perhaps more than you think.  It is possible that you all have trouble with projecting your voice.

Brock Lesnar, a professional wrestler and WWE champion made the news recently for receiving voice therapy to help him with his screaming technique http://goo.gl/n0DwXU.  Do you have a “high-pitched birdlike squawk” too when you raise your voice?  This may not apply entirely to all the day to day demands on your voice, however being able to project your message well with quality and endurance, and without strain can be learned.

Through voice therapy, emphasis is placed upon optimizing normal vocal physiologic behaviors. Projection without strain requires increased airflow from the chest and abdomen, increased amplitude of vocal fold vibration, and an open throat posture.  It is not advisable to force and push the voice from the throat, as it ends up choking it off vs. projecting it.  Projected voice should sound like a louder version of your talking voice.

Some additional tips for projecting without strain include using your talking pitch and not pitching the voice higher, maintaining the head and neck in a neutral position vs. extending it upwards, and the use amplification as the circumstances allow.  Adequate hydration with water will always make the vocal folds more responsive.

You too can make your voice louder and better projected without strain.   Contact Voicetrainer LLC at info@voicetrainer.com or 202-580-6646 to schedule an appointment.
