Do you need one more reason to stay healthy?

Posted on November 7, 2013 in Uncategorized

We have all heard that voters prefer more attractive politicians. Well, Andrew Edward White and Douglas Kenrick write in the Journal of Psychological Science, which was recently reviewed in the New York Times ( http://goo.gl/Fq8sOr ) that our preferences for good looking politicians may be linked to evolutionary adaptations for avoiding disease.  The factors associated with beauty such as smooth skin, shiny hair and body symmetry are actually indicators of health.  I would bet that a healthy voice clear of hoarseness might make a big difference also.

As a leader in your workplace or a prospective employee, it may behoove you to adapt healthy behaviors such as eating well, getting plenty of sleep, dressing appropriately, maintaining daily grooming, exercising, drinking lots of water and doing vocal exercises.  If you happen to get a common cold and are hoarse secondary to a lot of coughing, buy some strong cough medicine and if necessary, see an otolaryngologist.

We speak so much about the importance of making a good first impression when we interview for a job, make a presentation or ask for a raise. Maybe we should consider walking up the stairs at work, drinking water rather than a soda in the company cafeteria and humming softly as we walk down the hall.

It is about noon now and I’m going to hum a tune as I walk down the steps to get a salad for lunch (dressing on the side). Want to join me?

If we can help you to speak courageously and effectively at your next meeting or speak using a strong pleasant vocal tone, please contact us at www.voicetrainer.com.
